SARA & ADAM’S WEDDING

I just loved everything about this next wedding…. getting to know Sara and Adam, and getting to be there and documenting their day was such a pleasure….. If you’ve read my blog or know me at all, you’ll know that almost as much as I enjoy taking photos, I love to write…. sometimes though, I really don’t feel like words are enough, and that is why I’m so happy I also get to take photos, photos that speak for me when there really are no words to describe something. Sara and Adam (you might remember them from their engagement photos we did with them last fall at High Park….. click right HERE to see those images) are just such great people and they had a simply lovely wedding day in Toronto a couple of weekends ago….. and I am so excited to share these images!

Dave and I started the day by pulling out our umbrellas and running up the steps to the lovely Hart House in the University of Toronto campus, jumping over puddles to get out of the rain and meet up with the girls…. and the rain continued as the girls got ready, at one point it got very dark and loud cracks of thunder could be heard out the window…. still Sara kept her chin up and her lovely and excited smile didn’t leave her face, and the excitement never left the room (I love when it’s like that!). By the time Sara was in her gorgeous dress, Dave and the guys had arrived, the rain had stopped, and Adam was waiting for Sara to come down where they would have a “first look”. This is something more and more of the couples we work with decide to do, and it is a really lovely experience, a chance for them to see each other for the first time that day in private before the ceremony. It also gave us plenty of time for photos and let Sara and Adam enjoy their cocktail hour with their guests, and it’s all around just a really special time the couple gets to enjoy together. After their first look, we brought in their lovely wedding party who all looked amazing and were full of congratulations for them and we found lots of gorgeous spots around the old brick exterior of Hart House for more photos…. then it was time for everybody to hide away and get ready for the ceremony, which earlier that morning nobody would have believed could have been held outside, but it was, in the quad in the middle of the Hart House….. and it was stunning. Everyone enjoyed cocktails out on the patio under the tent before it was time to head inside to the stunning Great Hall, decorated with flowers from Sara’s step-dad and place-cards that were hand-written by Adam’s mum….. an amazing meal was served, everyone enjoyed the speeches, and I particularly enjoyed the Best Man’s rendition of how Adam and Sara started dating, especially what it was like whenever Adam would pick up the phone and it was Sara on the other end : ) Sara and her dad (who is from Australia) danced to a punk-rock version of “Waltzing Matilda” (it was so fun!) which lead into everyone flooding the dance floor and dancing well into the night…. ahh it really was an amazing day.

Sara and Adam, you know we think the world of you two and couldn’t be happier that our paths aligned and we were able to photograph your day! Everything about your day was amazing, but nothing more so than the two of you. Hope you enjoy these images as much as we enjoyed taking them…. I’ve posted quite a few photos in the hopes that the Aussie side of the family can get a little taste of what your special day was like from the other side of the world : )

PUBLISHED IN WEDDING ESSENTIALS MAGAZINE

I’m excited to have my first official tear sheets from a local magazine in which we’ve been published this month! It’s funny, I remember a time (not too long ago actually…) when I was like “tear sheets?….are those like some kind of special kleenex…for when you cry……I don’t get it?!” Clearly I’ve since learned a few things about this industry, ha! Thanks so much to Wedding Essentials and to Charlene and Jeff for submitting their wedding to be featured (to see their full blog post, click HERE). This is the first time we’ve been published in print, and I think that’s worth us raising a glass and having some kind of little dance around the office, right? : )

If you’re in the Toronto area, check out newsstands and join us in our little happy dance. Have a lovely weekend!

LAUREL & JEFF’S WEDDING

I’m so excited to share a few images from Laurel and Jeff’s wedding here….. you might remember these two lovely people from their super fun engagement photos we did with them on the beach not too long ago, which involved a campfire, hot dogs and marshmallows! (to view these images, please click right HERE) It’s been so awesome getting to know these guys…… they are totally fun, laid-back, we discovered that Jeff and I are in fact grads from the same high school AND university (go Spartans/Hawks!), and Laurel was just one of the happiest, relaxed, and laid-back brides on her wedding day… at any given moment during the day you were almost guaranteed to hear her laugh coming from somewhere : )

I started out the day hanging out with Laurel and her lovely bridesmaids who made me feel so welcome while Dave headed to the church to hang out with the guys during those final jittery moments before the ceremony starts. The beautiful old church where they were married was not chosen at random but was actually chosen very purposefully — Jeff’s grandfather had been one of the original elders who had helped build the church! Jeff even showed us his photo on the wall. Sadly, there are currently plans underway to tear down one half of the church to make way for (what else?) a new condo development, so we made sure to do the family photos out front under a lovely old tree and get some photos of them at the church before heading off to their reception to continue the celebrations. It was a little chilly and overcast but that didn’t stop everyone from mingling outside and enjoying cocktails before dinner was served inside the golf club, and the laughing continued as Jeff and Laurel held a little contest as a part of their “kissing game” — if you wanted them to kiss, you had to step up to the microphone and quote one of their favourite movies….. nobody was shy and lots of hilarious Anchorman quotes ensued! Jeff also delivered one of my favourite speeches I think I’ve ever heard, which started out with “Usually you’re not supposed to refer to past girlfriends when giving your speech on your wedding day….” (to read about Jeff’s speech, I mentioned it when I posted a few sneak peeks HERE). Dancing featured an awesome two-man live band who played crowd favourites and everyone danced and hung out well into the evening….. it was a superb day and I’m so glad we got to be there!

Laurel and Jeff, thank you for having us there for your big day, and also for understanding what I mean even when I have to resort to using sign language/arm gestures! Wishing you guys tons of happiness. Here are a few images from their day.

AMANDA & GUI’S WEDDING

Throughout the lead up time to their wedding, every time I went to type in Amanda’s name to send her an email, I automatically typed in the word “Amazing” instead. No joke. And it’s not just Amanda, Gui is pretty amazing too, ha! These two had an amazing wedding the other week…. and I’m still over the moon that we got to be a part of their elegant but totally laid back and fun day. To see their equally fun, movie-in-the-backyard engagement photos we did with them, please click right HERE : )

I arrived at the gorgeous old Gladstone Hotel in Toronto (I freaking love it there!) to meet up with the girls as they were getting ready, and progressively we all just got more and more excited as we watched as everything came together – the hair, the makeup, the gorgeous flowers, the chic and stylish black bridesmaid’s dresses, and of course, Amanda’s dress (do not adjust your monitors people, Amanda’s dress was gorgeous and yes, had a slight pink tint to it, which I just loved). It’s always so exciting as a photographer to see everything that a bride has described to me come together, and then to watch their reactions to seeing everything, and realizing that the day they’ve been planning is finally here is pretty awesome too. The boys got ready at Gui’s place, and I must say that I personally love the fact that they all helped him make his bed (right at the moment when they should have been leaving, ha!). They made their way to the Gladstone and Dave and I snapped away as Amanda and Gui had a first look, a time before the ceremony where the couple sees each other in private for the first time that day….. it’s a moment I always feel very honoured to photograph. This gave us time to get some photos of the whole group around the hotel before heading off to their evening ceremony and reception by the lake. The girls strutted down the aisle to fun music, and Gui and his groomsmen played Amanda the most incredible and heartwarming song (that you can listen to here as you view these images….. only Gui’s version included a kazoo solo! BAM!). The candlelit evening continued with delicious food followed by a specifically coordinated playlist put together by the bride herself (who also tore it up on the dance floor I must add!).

Amanda and Gui, you are some of the most fun but also most honest, real, and kind people I’ve met. We both feel like we could go on forever about how much we love you two and your wedding day….. we hope you equally enjoy the photos and that they bring a smile to your faces whenever you look at them : )

AMANDA & GUI’S SNEAK PEEK

I actually said while I was taking these photos of Amanda and Gui this weekend, “Wait. Am I still photographing a wedding or have we somehow moved into some sort of fashion shoot for Chanel that nobody told me about??!” Smoking hot. Look at these guys. I’m positive that as they and their wedding party walked down the aisle everybody’s jaws dropped. They put on an extremely personalized and extremely fun wedding celebration this weekend that included an amazingly touching first look, a kazoo, a gong, amazing people, and Amanda tearing it up on the dance floor! We were so lucky to be a part of and I can’t wait to share more images very very soon! Here are a few sneak peeks from their gorgeous day……
