CLEO

Cleo is our cat and I’m not sure if she’s been properly introduced yet on the blog, and well considering she is the third little member of our Jenn Stark Photographers family I thought it was about time she got a post of her own! She came to us almost two years ago now as a stray cat who kept wandering over to our friends’ door wanting to be fed…we often make up elaborate stories about her mysterious previous life before we adopted her. She likes jumping on our bed when the alarm goes off in the morning, chasing little crumpled up balls of paper down the hallway, margarine, and sitting on tissue paper…she dislikes the wind, the vacuum cleaner, music with vocals (but likes instrumental), and when you’ve just used Listerine mouthwash. Most days while I’m working away at my desk on photos, she can be found snoozing in my lap or the chair next to me…she’s currently on my lap wondering what I’m typing on and on about…

She’s also hard to photograph and is hopefully the one and only time I’ll experience a subject who usually runs away when I get out my camera… We love her to bits and if you come over you’ll see that this graph is an embarrassingly true representation of what goes on around here : )

PAID IN POLAROID

I think he thought I was crazy when I said that I would help him out in exchange for an old scratched up camera he had gathering dust in a box in his office….. and maybe (likely) I am but I couldn’t be any happier!!! Still trying to decide if I’m going to do some kind of project with it (like this one), use it at weddings or engagement shoots every once in a while…..hmm…..the possibilities, oh the possibilities! I’ve just got to place my order here and I’m on my way. Already tried it out and it’s affirmative. From the smell of loading the (expired) film, to looking through the square viewfinder and hearing the che-chink sound to waiting for the magic to happen…. I’m in love.

MONDAYS WITH CLEO

There are a few things I absolutely hate about working from home.  Like when the building decides to turn off all the water, and I forget, and I end up with soap all over my hands, staring dumbly as not even a trickle of water comes out of the faucet. The blur between office hours and home-time-hang-out-with-the-hubby hours. The small windows that are too high that I can’t sit and stare out of. The hot days with no air conditioning. Getting distracted by something that needs cleaning. There are some days where I dream about owning a studio – a little top floor space with exposed brick walls, industrial concrete floors, cool retro furniture and huge windows with lots of light just pouring in. I’d have the pot of coffee going and people would come in to meet and just hang out and talk and it’d be oh so much cooler than the Second Cup around the corner. But there are other days where I feel just oh so fortunate to be working from home. I roll out of bed and turn on the computer, whip up a smoothie and do one important thing to get my day started before even having a shower or going for a morning run. I make boiled eggs for my lunch. Take a fifteen minute walk into town to meet up with a friend for coffee. And the thing I love the most is I have the best office companion who keeps me company every single day of the week. Seriously, if I ever do get my top floor, exposed brick office space, I’m bringing her to work with me every single day. I’ll become known as the crazy woman who carries a meowing cat in her oversized purse to work in the mornings… it will be awesome! Honestly though, I don’t know how I could make it through the day without the random meows, the breaks to throw pieces of crumpled paper down the hallways for her to chase and the warm body falling asleep in my lap as I work.

Yes, I am one of those obsessive cat lover people. 100%. But come on. With a face like that, how could you not be?!

Images: 1. When I’m in my office chair, she’s in hers. 2. Bath time in the living room. 3. We gave her a real bath yesterday, with shampoo and everything. She was not too impressed with all the licking she had to do afterwards. 4. Favourite sleeping spot. We’ve had the computer that came in this box for a few months now. 5. Going to find a patch of sun.
