I walked in the door of Sarah’s mum’s house in Scarborough and made my way through an array of smiling bridesmaids, family members trying to get things organized and chasing after the young kids who were bouncing off the walls (as young kids do), and found Sarah sat in front of the huge living room window having her makeup done. She was facing the window and just staring at the rain pouring outside. Willing it to please go away any time now. It’s not very encouraging when you can see big huge raindrops splashing into puddles on the morning of your wedding and a completely grey sky overhead! But as the time approached and she grew closer to walking down the aisle to meet Trevor at the other end, at some point the rain ceased to matter. This was her wedding day. And you could see the excitement in her eyes.
After the ceremony the rain had actually stopped and so we continued as planned on to a formal garden not too far from the church, where Sarah and Trevor had arranged to have some photos taken. A few shots in, and yes. I felt a raindrop on my head. Didn’t say anything. Then a bridesmaid felt one. A groomsmen. Soon we were running for cover. And the skies opened up once again. We sat in the limo and again, just stared at the rain pouring outside. We had to laugh. So we headed to the hotel where the reception was being held a bit early than expected. It was also where Sarah and Trevor were staying that night. And uh oh. Another problem was nicely waiting for us there.
There had been a mix up at the hotel and it seemed as thought the room that had been reserved for the newlyweds had been given away by mistake. And so the hotel did what any good hotel should do when there’s a girl standing at their check-in in a white wedding gown: they gave them the much coveted and only ever dreamed about “Presidential Suite”! You know, where the Queen would stay should she ever be in the area and in need of some place to crash for a night. You know it’s going to be a wicked room when you open the door and there’s a foyer. A foyer. In their hotel room. We walked around their suite and all of us just about died as we opened door after door and after five minutes of exploring somebody asks “anybody find the bedroom yet?” So we set up shop with our cameras in hand and had a blast continuing to take some shots up in their suite. Pretty soon we’d all forgotten about the rain.
In the end, Sarah and Trevor’s day was never about perfect blue skies. It was about them declaring their vows to one another and becoming family, along with their two sons. Their day was also about celebration. Oh, it was definitely about celebration! Everyone had an absolute ball and danced the night away. Sarah & Trevor; thank you both so much for everything. You were absolutely stunning on your wedding day and we were so honoured to be a part of it! We hope you had a great time away (and got a much needed break!) on your honeymoon and that these images will put smiles on your faces and take you right back to your rainy, wonderful, stunning wedding day.
Enjoy these shots of Sarah, Trevor, and a few more people they love…
